Two hundred fifty years ago, the place at which I now make original windsor chairs was a point of Bedford activity. Here Jacob McGaw operated a tavern and store at the Merrimack River. Travelers often ate a hearty meal, paid their ferriage to cross or gained a nights lodging before journeying on to Londonderry or Exeter. In 1751 this portion of the Narragansett land grants was incorporated into Merrimack. Remaining an important river crossing it became a small village called "Reeds Ferry".
Today Jacob McGaw's tavern has been relocated to Meeting House road in Bedford and the village of Reeds Ferry is a memory only to old timers. But the pride, spirit and tradition of our fore fathers is symbolized by "The Olde Bedford Windsor Chair", a limited edition masterpiece to commemorate this original section of Bedford.
Hand made in the original manner these chairs exhibit all the characteristics of the museum quality windsors that might have graced the early homes of Bedford. Truly a "Master's" chair, only twenty five will be made, ensuring their long-term value as an investment.
